In the third installment of our Local Roofing Retreat series we are focusing on Orlando, Florida. The City Beautiful has so many activities to do when you need to get out of the house while your roof is being repaired or replaced!

Leu Gardens

leu-gardensIf you are an avid gardener, and need some new inspiration on your garden to go with your new roof stroll down the scenic paths winding through the Leu Gardens. Harry P. Leu’s estate features plants brought back from his globe-spanning travels to create the prettiest and most biologically diverse horticultural spot in the city. Bring your bikes for this trip – after your garden viewing, pedal down for a cocktail at Stardust Video and Coffee, or grab a beer at Redlight Redlight. [clear]

Weeki Wachee Springs State Park

weeki-wachee-springs-state-parkWhile the park has been around since 1947, it still looks gorgeous. During the summer months the Buccaneer Bay water park is open for sunbathing and water slide fun. If you are into more active recreation, you can get a kayak and paddle through one of Central Florida’s most beautiful springs. Only an hour and 45 minutes from downtown Orlando, the park is a great destination for a day trip, but there is also overnight accommodations nearby. [clear]

Lake Eola Farmers Market

lake-eola-farmers-marketFor farmers market browsing, it’s tough to beat Lake Eola Farmers Market. Featuring over 50 vendors, it is one of the best weekly markets in Central Florida. Bring your reusable shopping bags to fill with cheeses, baked goods, pastas and fresh fruits and vegetables. Snack while you meander through the sun-dappled paths around the South-eastern corner of Lake Eola. Grab a beer or all-you-can-drink mimosa from Orlando Brewing while kicking back to enjoy awesome live music. After listening to some chill tunes, stroll over to the Swan Boat rentals on the lake’s north side, then make your way to the middle of Thornton Park for brunch at Dexter’s or fantastic burgers from Graffiti Junktion, followed by a few patio pitchers at Burtons. After watching the sun set over the downtown skyline, head over to the Eo Inn and treat yourself to a manicure or massage before drifting off to sleep. [clear]

The St. Johns Rivership

Enjoy a relaxing cruise spotting gators, herons and turtles while you sip and eat your way into a peaceful mood far from the I-4 traffic and noise and mess of your home renovation. [clear]
